Video Sample 1: Demo of proposed project, Some Collisions

Scars are a map of our collisions with the world
Below is a concept demo of Some Collisions, an immersive theater and interactive performance installation that synthesizes stories of science and scars with compelling media narratives, creating a map of our collisions with the world. Some Collisions, co-created by Josephine Dorado, Phillip Gulley and John Daly, will premiere at Three-Legged Dog (3LD) in NYC in 2016, with the potential for scaling it out as a touring production that impacts multiple communities. The development will span five residency periods: MassArt (Boston), MuseumsQuartier (Vienna, Austria) and three workshop residencies at 3LD (NYC).

Video Sample 2: Firsthand Performances

Firsthand Performances was a live installation and performance which explored the fusing of physical and online performance through digital story booth exposition, physical installation and public thoughts on ideas around “performance.” Concept creation and direction by Josephine Dorado and Montzerrat Contreras for Encuentro Festival, Bogota, Colombia.

3. Firsthand Performances: a live installation and performance which explored the fusing of physical and online performance through digital story booth exposition, physical installation and public thoughts on ideas around “performance.” Visitors were were invited to create ‘characters’ that were then recorded, storybooth-style and continuously layered with improvised live dance and re-broadcast into the online/physical space, creating a recursive loop of improvised performances (by Nohemi Montzerrat Contreras and Josephine Dorado for the Encuentro Festival, Bogota, Colombia, 2009)

6. MetaAcademy, an online lab exploring embodiment and co-creation on the internet using movement and other improvisational ideas. Collaborated with Nancy Stark Smith using her Underscore approach for improvisation to develop embodied online, co-creative practices (facilitated by Marlon Barrios Solano, Rachel Boggia and Josephine Dorado for Bates Dance Festival 2013)

8. Macondo Dance Connect: mixed reality performance and community development project which brought youth together from the Macondo refugee community to explore cultural identity using dance, mapping, and digital storytelling. In this shot, participants are dancing as 3D avatars (digital representations of themselves) and are dancing in the physical space as well, as seen on the video screens above the stage (by Josephine Dorado for Cabula6 and Tanzquartier Wien; Vienna, Austria, 2009)

9. RPM’s Remixed: telematic, transdisciplinary performance based on remixing Alvin Lucier’s RPM’s score, integrating dance, video and sound improvisation. Dancers in Houston and Tampa (Elizabeth Haselwood & Rachel Chase) improvised together while sound artists in New York and Los Angeles (Emre Balik & Laura Escudé) created instant compositions. Realtime mixing and processing of the video images was driven partially by the performers’ movements, further blurring the lines of authorship and contributing to the impromptu chemistry (by Josephine Dorado for ISEA Festival)
