Chimera in Vacuo was a benefit performance done for the CASA and the Spring domestic violence shelters. Written and choreographed by Dorado, the work combined movement and text to explore the conflicts in abusive relationships and give voice to women affected by abuse. It was presented at the Loft Theatre as part of the Florida Dance Festival ’93. In a review in the Tampa Tribune, Maggie Hall stated,
“Choreographer and performance artist Josephine Dorado isn’t an artist who sticks to safe topics. Last year, she coordinated and acted in a Stageworks play on AIDS awareness for high school students. This year’s Florida Dance Festival will present the debut of her Chimera in Vacuo, a performance piece on women in abusive relationships, at the Loft Theatre.
